How are grapes good and bad for the intestines? – description, contraindications

Grapes are a perennial plant; fruits (berries) and leaves are used in treatment.

Description and composition

Grape leaves are harvested in May-June, fruits in August-September.

Several thousand varieties of grapes are known, which differ greatly in the chemical composition of their fruits.

Berries contain

  • sugar (18-20%),
  • organic acids (about 2.5%) – tartaric, malic, citric, succinic, oxalic, formic, salicylic (traces),
  • salts of potassium, calcium, magnesium, iron and double salts of these elements,
  • pectin, tannins and dyes,
  • quercetin,
  • Enin,
  • mono- and didelphinidin glucosides,
  • vitamins.

Leaves contain

  • sugar (about 2%),
  • acids - tartaric, malic and protocatechuic,
  • tannins,
  • inositol,
  • quercetin,
  • carotene,
  • choline,
  • betaine,
  • aloxuric bases.

Modern biochemists claim that the chemical composition of grape juice is similar to the composition of human milk. Maybe that’s why it has been cultivated since ancient times and several thousand varieties have been bred. It enjoys the reputation of the most nutritious, healthy, healing product. Archaeological excavations have shown that the inhabitants of the Old World already cultivated grapevines 7-9 thousand years ago.

Use for treatment

Grapes are used for many diseases:

  • general decline in body strength,
  • lack of appetite,
  • anemia,
  • chronic inflammation of the gastrointestinal tract, accompanied by constipation,
  • hemorrhoids,
  • increased stomach acidity,
  • bronchitis,
  • gout,
  • heart diseases,
  • liver,
  • kidneys, including in case of kidney stones as a stone-removing agent.

A decoction of dried grapes with a small amount of onion juice is used as a good remedy for cough and hoarseness. The berries are also taken for skin diseases.

The leaves have antiseptic, anti-inflammatory, hemostatic and wound-healing effects.

The powder of dried leaves is taken orally (2-4 grams) for bleeding, as a hemostatic.

A decoction and water infusion of the leaves are used to gargle for sore throats and as lotions for skin diseases.

Mode of application

Apply grapes and grape juice 3 times a day: in the morning on an empty stomach, an hour before lunch and in the evening. Start drinking juice with one glass at a time and increase the single dose to two glasses.

The initial daily dose of grapes is 1 kg, gradually increase it to 2.5-3 kg.

The course of treatment lasts about 3-4 weeks. During this period, it is not recommended to consume fatty meat, raw milk and alcoholic beverages.

Treatment with grapes is called amelotherapy.
