Albendazole (nemozol, zentel): mechanism of action, regimen of use, contraindications

Release form

Tablets 0.2 and 0.4 g.

Suspensions of 2.5% and 10% for oral administration in a 100 mg bottle (5 ml per 1 l).

Mechanism, spectrum of action

• Antihelminthic – selectively inhibits the polymerization of β-globulin, disrupts the activity of the cytoplasmic microtubular system of the intestinal canal cells of helminths, suppresses glucose utilization, and blocks the movement of organelles in the muscle cells of nematodes. Effective against larval forms of cestodes (Echinococcus granulosus and Taenia solium) and nematodes (Strongyloides stercoralis).
• Contraindication – age up to 2 years.

Application diagram

• Taken orally after meals. No laxatives or special diet are required.
• Ascariasis , hookworm : adults and children – 0.4 g/day once an hour before meals.
• Enterobiasis : adults and children – 0.4 g/day once an hour before meals, repeat after 2-3 weeks.
• Trichocephalosis : adults and children – 0.4 g/day one hour before meals for 3 days.
• Strongoloidiasis : adults and children – 0.8 g/day 1 time an hour before meals for 7 days. If necessary, repeat after 3 weeks.
• Trichinosis : adults - 0.4 g 2 times a day; children - 10 mg per 1 kg of body weight in 2 divided doses with meals. The course lasts 8-14 days.
• Toxocariasis : adults – 0.4 g/day; children - 10 mg per 1 kg of body weight in 2 divided doses with meals. The course is 14 days (no more than 21 days)
• Cysticercosis of the brain: adults – 0.8 g/day; children - 15 mg per 1 kg of body weight in 2 divided doses with meals for 8-30 days.
• Cystic echinococcosis , alveococcosis: adults 0.8 g/day, children over 2 years old - 10-20 mg per 1 kg of body weight (up to 0.8 g) in 2-3 doses with meals. The course for echinococcosis is 28 days, a total of 2-3 courses with breaks of 14 days. The duration of treatment for alveococcosis is at least years without interruption.
• Giardiasis : adults and children over 12 years old - 0.4 g / day, children over 2 years old - 15 mg per 1 kg of body weight 1 time per day before meals. Course – 5-7 days.
