Pyrantel (helmintox): mechanism of action, indications, application regimen

Release form

The drug is available as a suspension in a 125 mg (2.5 ml) bottle,

15 ml bottles,

in the form of tablets 125 mg and 250 mg.

Mechanism and spectrum of action

The drug has an anthelmintic effect, causes a neuromuscular blockade, and acts on both mature and immature individuals of both sexes.

Contraindicated for children under 6 months of age.

Application diagram

For ascariasis and enterobiasis :

• It is recommended to take 10 mg per kg of body weight per day once orally;
• adults - 750 mg for body weight up to 75 kg, for body weight more than 75 kg - 1 g;
• children
• 6 months – 2 years take 125 mg or 2.5 ml,
• 2-6 years – 250 mg or 5 ml,
• 6-12 years – 500 mg or 10 ml,
• over 12 years of age with a body weight of no more than 75 kg - 750 mg or 15 ml.

To avoid self-infection, it is possible to repeat the course 3 weeks after the first dose.

For hookworm disease, necatoriasis and mixed helminthiasis:

recommended for adults and children 10 mg/kg body weight per day for 3 days or

20 mg per kg of body weight per day for 2 days.
