Hamartoma of the duodenal glands is hyperplasia, polypoid tissue proliferation or adenoma of the duodenal glands.
Content
What it is?
We are talking, as a rule, about excessive growth of the tissues of the duodenal glands, which in some cases creates the picture of a polyp. The proliferation of glandular tissues and their nodular hyperplasia are a consequence of chronic inflammatory processes of the gland and can penetrate through the lamina propria and muscularis of the mucous membrane to the submucosa. Often there are layers of fat between the glands. The histological picture of such formations is of the nature of a hamartoma (a benign volumetric neoplasm, consisting, as a rule, of the same cells as the organ in which it is localized).
Symptoms
The disease can be asymptomatic for a long time and is discovered accidentally during X-ray or endoscopic examination of the duodenum.
In the case of significant growth of glandular tissue,
- pain in the epigastric region,
- nausea,
- vomit,
- other symptoms of duodenal obstruction.
Diagnostics
An accurate diagnosis is made using duodenoscopy with biopsy. The histological picture of such formations is of the nature of a hamartoma.
Differential diagnosis
Carry out with other intestinal tumors.
Treatment
The need to remove a hamartoma arises if it is significantly enlarged and grows rapidly.
Forecast
If symptoms of intestinal obstruction , the prognosis is very serious due to the complexity of the surgical intervention.
Prevention
Patients should be under the dynamic supervision of a gastroenterologist. Control endoscopic examinations of the duodenum with biopsy should be carried out at least once a year.
